 – A Course in Creative and Applied Thinking Skills

Educators such as Edward de Bono maintain that creative thinking is a skill that can be taught and developed. The activities within this 3-book photocopiable series provide children with the opportunity to learn and practise creative thinking skills in interesting and stimulating situations.

Through the activities in this series, children develop the skills of fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, curiosity, complexity, risk-taking and imagination. The books are structured in such a way that children can gain confidence and ability in each skill before combining concepts to address creative challenges surrounding a range of themes.

  1. Book 1 (for ages 10-12+) Challenges:
    • Book 1 challenges, from the theme of Future Living, range from building a bomb shelter from a school chair, to describing a world where ants are the size of cats.
  2. Book 2 (for ages 8-10) Challenges:
    • Book 2 challenges, from the theme of Space and Aliens, range from describing what a world would be like if it was always night time – to combining a toothbrush, a tennis racquet and a lawnmower to make a useful household appliance.
  3. Book 3 (for ages 6-8) Challenges:
    • Book 3 challenges, from the theme of Animals, range from describing a problem that the intervention of ice cream ‘solved’ – to inventing a new covering for cats to replace fur.
