Description
The two books in this series contain three delightful stage plays for children to perform in front of large audiences. Each play includes themed activities. Production notes accompany each play to help teachers make decisions about costumes, props and stage sets.
The plays incorporate popular songs and humour and have been cleverly written to teach children important values and to allow for maximum participation.
Cross-curricular activities are connected to each play which are practical, fun and cover a number of learning areas. Perfect Plays for Primary Students will give children the opportunity to develop a love and understanding of performance and develop the skills needed to participate in any school production.
Book 1 – The Plays:
- A Friend Indeed (Theme: Friendship)
- Burly is a pirate, mean and often nasty. He doesn’t have any friends because the townsfolk in Pirate Town are frightened of him. Burly discovers that to have friends you need to be friendly and so he changes his ways, to everyone’s delight and relief.
- Think Before You Act (Theme: The Importance of Thinking Things Through)
- A little dog wants to protect his owners. He knows that the Yum Yums want to harm his owners, but his owners act before they think. Luckily all is well in the end. This play is loosely based on ‘The Hobyahs’ but is less violent.
- Dreams Really Can Come True (Theme: Sharing and Caring)
- Johnny is being naughty. Santa and the Dreamlings use a bit of special magic to bring happiness and love to the little boy so he no longer misbehaves.
Book 2 – The Plays:
- This Land is For Sharing (Theme: Sharing Our Environment)
- Based on the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, this play has an Australian theme. Three kangaroos want to cross a bridge to eat the grass on the other side. Bunyip has other ideas and tries to stop them. This nearly ends in disaster until a swaggie convinces Bunyip that they can all share the grass.
- Do You Know What’s Good for You? (Theme: Making Healthy Choices)
- This play is about Little Dude learning about the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables from his Granny. He also learns why some foods are best left alone.
- The First Christmas (Theme: Origin of Christmas)
- This is the traditional story of the first Christmas, told in rhyme and ending with a nativity tableau.
