Developing a Positive Sense of Self is full of ideas and activities that teachers can use to help students feel good about themselves while at the same time creating a classroom environment where mutual support and caring are the norm. A classroom in which all students feel valued and able to express their feelings and opinions openly is a happy classroom filled with super kids. Classroom teachers play a crucial role in helping students to develop self-esteem. They do this not only by creating a learning environment but also by being a friend, by listening, by encouraging a “you can do it” attitude and, of course, by accepting each child and his or her contributions and perceptions without judgement.
