Description

A step-by-step guide to a Drama Project for the Primary Classroom

Know Yourself – Know the World is an innovative educational pack, linking dramatic exploration to a development education theme. It is designed to complement the Department of Education and Science’s guidelines for teaching drama within the primary school curriculum and to be appropriate to the learning aims and objectives as specified for the stand content. While being most suitable to 4th, 5th and 6th Classes, the material is also generally accessible to younger children. It should be seen as a general resource for teaching drama in the classroom, as well as a doorway into the world of development education. A such, it should be of immense value to the whole school.

The pack emanates from an arts project which first took place during the 2004 Sonas Children’s Art Festival in Louisburg, Co. Mayo. The original participants were pupils for Louisburg Killeen and Lecanvey National Schools. While the first project was guided by a team of facilitators and concluded with an ambitious public presentation, the material for this education pack has been clearly re-formatted as process drama and tailored to suit the needs of a regular teacher, working in his/her classroom under normal school conditions.
